Extra Safety Measures In Place During Oklahoma Turnpike Construction

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority is taking extra safety measures for a major project to widen the Turner Turnpike between the Bristow area and west Tulsa, the agency said Tuesday.

Work has already begun to widen the 20-mile stretch of the Interstate 44 toll road from four lanes to six, but it will become more intensified in August, said Tim Gatz, OTA director.

OTA spokesman Jack Damrill has previously said construction will begin Aug. 8. Motorists can expect lane closures and slowdowns during the project until its estimated completion in spring 2020.
